Saving Clips

ClipRing captures text automatically — nothing extra to do.

  1. 1 Copy as normal: Press ⌘C in any app. ClipRing saves the text to your history in the background.
  2. 2 Terminal apps: By default, selections in terminal apps are also captured. Enable Require ⌘C in terminal apps in Settings if you want to capture only explicit copies.
  3. 3 Text only: ClipRing saves plain text and URLs. Images and files are ignored.

Cycling Through History

Paste any previous clip without opening the app.

  1. 1 Paste: Press ⌘V to paste the current clipboard item, as usual.
  2. 2 Cycle to the next item: Press ⇧⌘V (Shift-Command-V) to replace it with the next item in your history. Press again to keep stepping through older items.
  3. 3 Confirm or cancel: Press Return to keep the current item. Press Escape to clear the pasted text and restore everything to the way it was before you started cycling.

Searching & Managing

Find, pin, or delete clips from the Clipboard tab.

  1. 1 Search: Type in the search field on the left of the Clipboard list to filter clips instantly.
  2. 2 Select to act: Click any item to select it. A small set of icons — Copy, Pin, and Delete — appears on the row, and again above the full text on the right. Click Copy to put the clip back on your clipboard.
  3. 3 Pin a clip: Click the pin icon on a selected item. Pinned clips do three things: they stay at the top of the list, they never expire, and they’re never removed when the ring fills up. Think of a pin as a permanent bookmark.
  4. 4 Delete a clip: Click the trash icon on a selected item. Pinned clips are protected — the Delete icon only appears once you unpin them.
  5. 5 Delete all unpinned: Use the trash button in the window’s toolbar (top) and choose Delete All Unpinned to clear everything except your pinned clips at once.

How to use ClipRing

Save and paste any text, not just the last one.

  1. 1 Save text: Select text in any app, tap Share, then tap ClipRing.
  2. 2 Paste text: In any text field, switch to the ClipRing keyboard and tap the item to paste.
  3. 3 Pin favorites: Swipe a clip right to Pin it. Pinned clips stay at the top, never expire, and are never removed when the ring fills up — a permanent bookmark. Unpin before deleting.
